Overview


The Department of Biochemistry was established in the academic year 1995-96, initially offering a three-year Undergraduate programme with an intake of 50 students. The department expanded its academic offerings with the introduction of a Post Graduate programme in 1999, followed by the commencement of research activities in 2003.

Biochemistry is the study of the chemical processes and substances that occur in living organisms, playing a crucial role in the functioning of all life forms. This field is integral to a variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, healthcare, clinical laboratories, agriculture, agribusiness, veterinary medicine, and entrepreneurship. The department’s curriculum is meticulously designed to equip students with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for success in these diverse fields.

The Biochemistry Department is an innovative and forward-thinking division of the college, consisting of accomplished faculty, research scholars, and dedicated students. The department is also well-equipped with two separate, state-of-the-art, air-conditioned laboratories, housing sophisticated instruments to support the needs of undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs.

Our vision is to develop the Biochemistry through Bharathidasan College of Arts and Science, Erode into a Centre for Excellence in teaching, research and extension activities in the various subjects of Life Sciences Vision of the Department is to strive to impart value-based education to create innovations and to uplift the rural youth to meet the challenge of the Global Society. Mission of the college is to provide job oriented education, to improve professional skills, to give Training and research facilities, to create an agreeable environment for rural youth to enrich their capabilities and make them as responsible citizens by providing Ethical, Moral and Social values. To develop human and environmental health through research and education.

The candidates should have passed a post-graduate degree course either with SSLC + HSC + UG +PG (i.e., 10 + 2 + 3 + 2) or with 10-years SSLC + 3 years Diploma + 2 years UG degree + 2 years PG (i.e., 10 + 3 + 2 + 2). Thus, only the candidates possessing a PG degree with 17 years of total duration of study alone are eligible for admission to the Ph. D., programme.

Admission: Through NET/INSPIRE or through Common Entrance Test (CET) entrance exam conducted by the Bharathiar University followed by an interview.
